Simple Future Tense

    The Pattern
      (+) S + will + V1
      (-) S + will not (won't) + V1
      (?) Will + S + V1

     Example:
  • I will go to the bank.
  • I not go to the school tomorrow.
  • Will you come to the party tomorrow?
When do we use the simple future tense?
      a. No plan/spontaneous acitivity
We use the simple future tense when there is no plan or decision to do something before we speak. We make the decision at the time of speaking.

      Example:
  • Hold on. I'll get a pen.
  • We will see what we can do to help you.
  • Maybe we'll stay in and watch television tonight.
We often use the simple futre tense with the verb 'to think'.
  • I think i'll go to the gym this afternoon.
  • I think i'll have a holiday next month.
  • I don't think i'll buy that house.
     b. Prediction
We often use the simple future tense to make a prediction about the future. We are saying what we think will happen.

    Example:
  • It will rain tonight.
  • People won't go to Mars before the 22nd century.
  • Who do you think will get the best score?
